point guard
A team's primary ballhandler. The point guard carries the ball 'upcourt', from the defensive court to the offensive court and sets up the team's offense. Usually small, around the 6'6" mark. The point guard is generally the leader of the team on the court, acting as an extension of the coach. The point guard must have exceptional ball-handling and passing skills, as well as good vision (ability to see clearly what is happening in all parts of the court).
The point guard and the shooting guard together form the backcourt.
