expansion team
Teams that are newly added to the NBA are known as expansion teams. The Charlotte Bobcats are an expansion team, added to the league at the start of the 2004-2005 season. Whenever an expansion occurs, the latest added teams are referred to as expansion teams, and the teams that were addressed as expansion teams before the latest expansion are no longer called so.
