expansion
As at the starting of the 2004-2005 season, the NBA has 30 teams. Rarely, teams are added to the NBA. This is known as expansion. The Charlotte Bobcats are an expansion team, added to the league at the start of the 2004-2005 season. Also See: NBA, draft, playoffs.
