salary cap
Common term for Maximum Team Salary, the maximum amount each team may pay in salaries during an NBA season, as per terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Every year, the NBA determines the salary cap during the 2-week July moratorium on player movement in the off season. Arriving at the salary cap each year is a very complicated procedure and the NBA deploys an army of experts to crunch the numbers.
