restricted free agent
A NBA player whose contract with his present team has expired and who can seek offers from other teams. His present team has the final say in the deal. The present team has the last right of refusal, i.e. it can choose to keep the restricted free agent by matching the highest offer on which the player has signed, or refuse to match the best offer and let him go.
